She has previously worked for Firefly Photography, ESP magazine (based in Peterborough) where she wrote, managed and took photographs for the live music page, and more recently writes live music reviews for Dusted magazine (based in Derby). Her work, a mixture of both artistic and commercial endeavours, is surrounded by the quest for beauty in all things. Her current obsession is with the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, which is a running theme in her latest work.

Personal Statement "Brought up around photographers, I first attempted to rebel by purchasing a video camera in a bid to use my own medium. I found I had a passion for filming live bands, but I couldn't fight the urges to take photographs for long. I soon purchased my first SLR and began a photography A Level. Within a month I applied to continue photography at University in Derby. "As for subject, I have a keen eye for aesthetically pleasing compositions, whether it be of a live band, or a landscape; and aim to edit them to the highest of professional standards. My artistic work has lately shifted onto the Japanese concept of beauty – Wabi Sabi (derived from early Zen Buddhism, where the decayed is seen as beautiful). This idea shows how objects that demonstrate signs of being used (damage through use) can tell us something about the owner, and also reminds us of the beauty of the natural world (as nature is imperfect and constantly decaying). Perfection is dull. I believe beauty can only be found in the interesting, in the unique. "I have just concluded a position as a portrait photographer where I was in charge of the modelling and make over side of the industry. This gave me essential insight into the industry, and worthy experience with capturing both male and female models. I now have reverted back to my macro work, but have many fashion shoots now lined up to progress in the industry." |
